WINSCP is a free and open-source file transfer program that allows user to transfer files from local machine to server. It uses protocols like FTP, SSH and SCP to transfer files securely. This software work efficiently with Windows and has features to transfer files just by dragging and dropping.
WINSCP allows user to transfer files from local computer to server by using security password. That is why it is safe to transfer files with WINSCP.
In this article, I have tried to share some basic information related to WINSCP. So, we will first learn the procedure to install and setup WINSCP and then how to use it.

# Install WINSCP

Below is the procedure given to install WINSCP.
  • Download WINSCP installation package from the official website.
  • Launch the file by double-clicking and then a window will appear as shown.
  • Click over Next and proceed.
  • In the next window, set the Initial User Setting as Commander and proceed with the Next option.
  • Click over Install in the next window to install WINSCP.
With these above mentioned steps, you have successfully installed WINSCP. Now, read further to set up and use WINSCP on your system.

# Setup WINSCP

  • To setup WINSCP, run the program from All Programs section.
  • A Login window will appear as shown below. Enter the required credentials.
File Protocol: Select the protocol type from the drop down button.
Host name: Enter the IP Address of the server.
Username & Password: Enter the username and password of root.
*The default Port for WINSCP is 22.
  • Click over Login to login to server.
*A confirmation window will appear on your first login, if you trust the host computer. Click over Yes and proceed.

You have been successfully logged in to your server via WINSCP.
Now, you can easily drag and drop files from local to remote server and vice-versa.
*After successfully transfer of file, select Quit option from the commands menu to exit the program.
