Sub-domain is a part of website that is created to navigate visitors to other parts of the website. It is like a extension present in the main domain. It allows user to divide website into different sections. The universal sub-domain is www which is used in all websites. Sub-domain is different from add-on domain so I've created an article to describe the difference between the two.
With the help of sub-domain user can easily navigate visitors to multiple pages of the website and manage the contents as well. Now, a question arises, how many subdomains can be created by a website owner? So, the answer of this question is very simple. A user can create multiple sub-domains as per the requirement but sometimes it depends upon the service provider from which you have taken the hosting services. This is because, every service provider has their own plans and features so this can be vary accordingly. If I talk about my experience, then I'm using the hosting services of REDSERVERHOST, wherein I've enough features to manage the website and its content.
Today, in this article I'm sharing the detailed procedure to point sub-domain to different IP Address.
Pointing sub-domain to different IP Address is not a tough task. Let us see the detailed procedure.
  • Login to cPanel account and get inside Domains section.
  • Now, select Zone Editor from the list.
  • On the next page,click over Manage option of the domain of which subdomain you want to change the IP Address 
  • You will be directed to the page where you get options to update DNS records.
  • Click over Edit option of the sub-domain to update the IP Address.
  • Now, enter the new IP Address in the section directed in below image.
  • Then click over Save Record to point sub-domain to different IP Address.
You will receive a confirmation message.
You can also verify if the sub-domain has been successfully pointed to different IP Address from command prompt.
  1. Click over Windows key and type cmd.
  2. Open the command prompt and use ping command with sub-domain to check if the sub-domain is pointing to new IP address.
